Q. How much money did Rodman Library patrons save by borrowing materials in 2009?

A. In 2009, 447,523 items were checked out of Rodman Library. This amounts to a total savings to the community of $8,930,495.05.

Q. How much money did Rodman Library patrons save by borrowing materials through SearchOhio that are not owned by the library?

A. SearchOhio began in late January 2009 and has been well received in our community. From its beginnings in late January through the end of 2009, 7,277 items have been borrowed for a total cost savings to our patrons of $254,695.00. These were requests to other Ohio public libraries for items that Rodman Library does not own. By using SearchOhio, borrowers did not have to purchase these items themselves.

Q. How much money did Rodman Library patrons save by using computers in the library to access the Internet, search databases, and check email?

A. Rodman Library’s computers were used for a total of 28,801 hours. At an average cost of $12.00 per hour, our patrons saved $345,612.00.

Q. How many reference questions were answered during 2009? How much money did the community save by using the Rodman Library Reference Department?

A. During 2009, Rodman Library’s Reference and Children’s Department staff answered 38,688 reference questions. Private sector reference companies charge $7.00 and up for these services. This amounts to $270,816.00 in savings to our community.

Q. Rodman Library offers storytime and lapsit programs for our youngest patrons. Did these programs save our community any money?

A. In 2009, Rodman Library offered 253 storytime and lapsit programs that were attended by 3,390 children, ages 2-7. The cost to take a child to the movies in Alliance is $4.25 for the adult and $2.25 for the child or an average cost to each (a parent with one child) of $3.25. The savings for those attending storytime or lapsit is $11,017.50.
