215 East Broadway Street Alliance, OH 44601 330-821-2665 Alliance Memory Website Gets a FaceliftDecember 2011The Alliance Memory project, a collection of more than 2,700 sights, sounds and reminiscences of Alliance, Ohio, has received a facelift. The website has recently undergone changes to make it more user-friendly and interactive. Collections available on Alliance Memory include Alliance Places, Alliance People, Taylorcraft, Morgan Engineering, Voices of Alliance and the Library. New features include a display of recently added items to each collection. Viewers can subscribe to an RSS newsfeed to receive updated information on new items that are added to the site. Users may comment on or tag items to enhance the information presented. This has the potential to help with identifying "unknown" people or places. The home page for each collection features a carousel of random images from the collection and 'most recently added items' for a particular collection as well. "Share" and "reference URL" buttons have also been added to allow easy sharing of images. Hovering over a thumbnail image will open a bubble window with details about the image without having to click on it first. It is also easier to zoom in on an image, read multi-page documents, and print and download images for personal use. Just for fun, you can change the search buttons to Pirate English as well. Alliance Memory was created in 2004 and was originally funded in part through an Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio. It has received funding from the Alliance Historical Society, Castle Crusaders, and Haines House, and is maintained by Rodman Public Library. Contact the library for use of images in publications, presentations, or if you would like high quality reproductions. The website can be found at www.alliancememory.org. For more information, call the library at 330-821-2665, ext. 101. |
