Slide 31 of 31

We already learned that the call number of the last item must be higher than that of the first item. It is also important that the first and the last items (at least) belong to the same shelving location. If you want to use Inventory to check shelf order instead of simply checking which items are on the shelf, reasonably good shelf order would be helpful before you start - or your inventory error report could be very large and unwieldy. The inventory report of mis-shelved items is not very easy to understand at first. When it tells you that 20 items are mis-shelved it could mean that only one item (21st) is mis-shelved and all you need to do is to move the 21st item to its correct place (2nd) in the sequence. Other horror stories mentioned above may sound trivial but they actually happened in our library. You could easily lose a whole day's work!
