| A few years ago we carried out a program of weeding in one of our libraries and made an extensive use of the Inventory module's ability to create a review file from scanned barcodes. In fact it would have been difficult to complete the project without this facility. Each book on the shelf was visually checked and put aside on a trolley if the last due date stamped was earlier than a certain date. The barcodes of the books on the trolley were scanned to create a review file of these items. We then looked for items which should not be weeded because they were recent acquisitions or they circulated recently, by sorting the file by creation date, LCHKIN, etc. The records for the items which should not be weeded were removed from the review file and the corresponding books were returned to the shelf. The remaining records in the review file were changed in Rapid Update. We also ran statistical reports based on the review file to find items with incorrect status, e.g. missing, in transit, or items belonging to another location. See the next slide to learn how statistical reports may be used to find records with errors in fixed length fields. |
