Mixed call numbers in a shelving location offer a special challenge when running inventory reports.

The video collection in our library includes items with Cutter number call numbers, Dewey Decimal numbers, and older items with no call numbers.

The Dewey numbers are shelved at the end of the section. When the report was run, only the Cutter number call numbers were reported. This occurs because of a “rule of 5000” that runs the scanned barcodes against the next 5000 items in the shelflist. The Dewey numbers, although in the same shelving location, are more than 5000 items away from the Cutter numbers and therefore doesn’t include them in the report.

The best way to handle these sections is to scan them separately.
