Tax Assistance Program

Rodman Public Library will welcome Trillium Family Solutions to assist patrons with filing their federal and state taxes through The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB). The OBB focuses on connecting Ohioans with their full tax refund and believes that no one should have to fight to keep the money they have earned. Free tax assistance is offered for individuals and families with an annual gross income below $60,000. Electronic filing is used and refunds are deposited directly as quickly as 7 days later. Trillium will offer tax assistance at Rodman Public Library on Monday, February 6, from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, from 12-4 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday, February 28, from 12-4 p.m. An appointment is necessary to receive assistance. Patrons interested in receiving tax assistance should call 330-454-7066, ext. 328 to set up an appointment. General information patrons should bring with them to appointments are: social security number and birth dates for anyone filing and bank account/routing number for direct deposit. Celebrate African American Female Artists

Celebrate African American History Month with Rodman Library! Join the Library in welcoming Katherine T. Brown, Director of Museum Studies and Assistant Professor of Art History at Walsh University. The focus of the program will be on African American women artists, ranging from the Antebellum period to contemporary America. She will present a survey of images by artists Harriet Powers (1837-1911), Edmonia Lewis (1844-1907), Betye Saar (b. 1926), Faith Ringgold (b. 1930), Carrie Mae Weems (b. 1953) and Kara Walker (b. 1969). The works of art discussed will include quilts and other fiber arts, sculpture and assemblage, paintings and paper cut-outs. The program will take place on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium. No registration is required. For more information, call the library at 330-821-2665, ext. 208.

Pre-Valentine's Day Movie for Teens

Area teens ages 13-18 are invited to Rodman Public Library to enjoy a "Pre-Valentine’s Day" movie. Food and drinks will be provided. The program will take place on Monday, February 13, at 6 p.m. Starring Robert DeNiro, Claire Danes and Michelle Pfeiffer, the movie takes place in a countryside town bordering on a magical land. A young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm. The program will take place in the Main Library Auditorium. Alliance City Band Display and Program

During the month of February, Rodman Public Library will have on display Alliance City Band items from the collections of the Alliance Historical Society and the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home. The display will lead into a program by former Alliance City Band member and historian, Paul Hobe. He will present a program on the history of the Alliance City Band on Tuesday, February 28, at 7 p.m. The program, sponsored by the Alliance Historical Society, will feature over 30 PowerPoint slides with pictures and illustrations. How to Download eBooks

Did you get a new eReader for Christmas? Not sure how to use it? Rodman Public Library will hold several eBook classes in February. "Borrowing eBooks from RPL" will be presented on Wednesday, February 15, at 10 a.m. and Monday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m. Learn how to download library eBooks onto electronic devices using the Ohio eBook project lending service. Patrons should bring their device with them. Those using a Kindle must know their Amazon password to download library eBooks. Registration is required and can be made by calling 330-821-2665, then press '0'.

Play Video Games @ RPL

Do you enjoy playing video games? Eager to try out the Xbox 360 with Kinect and Nintendo Wii? Want to show your skills at sports, dancing or other games? Every other Thursday, from 3-5 p.m., area teens age 13-18 are invited to visit Rodman Public Library to play Xbox 360 with Kinect. Upcoming sessions include February 9 and 23. Visitors will have the opportunity to play a different game each week. Games with ratings from E for Everyone up to teen level will be offered. The library urges teens to suggest games they would be interested in playing. No registration is required for these free gaming events. Needlework Circles Continue

The KnitWits Knitting Circle of Rodman Public Library will meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library. Meetings for this month will take place on February 13 and 27. The Needlework Circle Too will meet on February 13 and 27 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library. Knitters, and other needle workers, are invited to network and compare notes. For more information on this or other programs/services offered by the library, call 330-821-2665, ext. 208.

Knitting Circles Raise Money for the Alliance Pantry

Over the last several months, the Knitwits Needlework Circle of Rodman Public Library has had hand-knitted items for sale at the Main Library, with proceeds going to the Alliance Community Food Pantry. Rodman Public Library is proud to announce that thanks to the Alliance community, the drive raised $169.00. Members of the Knitwits Needlework Circle knitted several items, including scarves, mittens and lap robes, to sell for this program. Rodman Library would like to thank both the Knitwits Needlework Circle and the Alliance community for their generosity.

Boys' Book Club

Rodman Public Library invites boys ages 9-11 to a book club just for them. The monthly sessions will be held through April 2012. Meetings will include a book discussion, games and other activities. Children must be able to read on a 4/5 grade reading level.More...

February Lapsit

The Children's Department will host Lapsit during the month of February. Patrons ages 2 and 3 years old are invited to Lapsit Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Topics will include: All Music, Hugs & Kisses, Bathtime, and Bedtime. Sessions last 20-30 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. Come as often as you can. February Storytime at the Branch

The Carnation Mall Branch of Rodman Public Library will host Storytime for 4-6 year olds in February. Patrons may attend Storytime on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:15 p.m. or Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Topics will include: Time to Rhyme, Love, love, love..., Valentine's Day, Pancakes and Seussical Silliness. The goal of Storytime is to encourage life-long readers through stories, music, movement and activities. Pre-registration is not required. For more information, call the library at 330-821-1313.
