Learn to Eat Smart and Be Active
A representative from the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, part of Ohio State University's Extension Services, will visit Rodman Public Library on Tuesdays in May. The programs will include food tasting, money saving tips, easy recipes, healthy snack ideas and more. Free gifts will also be given to those in attendance. Lessons will include "plan shop save", "vary your veggies", "build strong bones", "make a change" and more. The goal of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education program is to teach families to plan and shop for meals and snacks that are healthy and within their budget. By the end of the program, participants will be able to plan a main dish from foods on sale, make a shopping list for that main dish, identify the main parts of the "Nutrition Facts" panel of a food label and use unit pricing to determine the best buy between products. Programs will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Main Library Conference Room, on Tuesdays May 1, 8, 15 and 22. Teens Can Make Sweet Treats
Teens ages 13-18 are invited to learn how to use chocolate molds to create sweet treats during a program at Rodman Public Library. Area baker and candy-maker Sharron Springer will give a presentation on making chocolate candies using candy molds, and teens will get to make their own treats to take home. This make-and-take program will be held on Thursday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium. Registration is required and must be made by Thursday, May 23. Lego Splash Continues in May
Build with Legos at Rodman Public Library when the Children's Department hosts Lego Splash! The program will take place on Saturday, May 26, from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium. The theme for this month is "Colorful Creations". We provide the Lego and Duplo bricks, you provide the creations! The program is open to all ages. No registration is required. Military Transition Programs to be Offered at Rodman Library
Transitioning from military to civilian life is not easy. Find out what services and benefits are available to military members and veterans when Rodman Public Library hosts a series of "Transition Assistance" programs. Tales for Tails
Rodman Public Library will once again offer children the chance to try their reading skills on local therapy dogs on Saturday, May 19, from 2-4 p.m. Therapy dogs such as "Bear", the cute five-pound bundle of Chihuahua joy owned by Ruth DeFranco, will "listen" to stories in the Children's Program Room at the Main Library. Fifteen minute time slots are available. Patrons may sign up in advance for a preferred time slot, but walk-ins are also welcome. Needlework Circles Continue
The KnitWits Knitting Circle of Rodman Public Library will meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library. Meetings for this month will take place on May 14 and 28. The Needlework Circle Too will meet on May 14 and 28 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library. Knitters, and other needle workers, are invited to network and compare notes. Play Video Games at Rodman Library
Do you enjoy playing video games? Eager to try out the Xbox 360 with Kinect and Nintendo Wii? Want to show your skills at sports, dancing or other games? Every other Thursday, from 3-5 p.m., area teens age 13-18 are invited to visit Rodman Public Library to play Xbox 360 with Kinect. Upcoming sessions include May 3, 17 and 31. Visitors will have the opportunity to play a different game each week. Games with ratings from E for Everyone up to teen level will be offered. Along with video games, multiple board games are available to teens, as well as an iPad and Nook. The latest young adult book titles will also be on display at each session. The library urges teens to suggest games, books and movies they would like the library to purchase. No registration is required for these free gaming events. May Lapsit
The Children's Department will host Lapsit during the month of May. Patrons ages 2 and 3 years old are invited to Lapsit Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Topics will include: Music Day, Beautiful Blooms, Little Ladybugs and Busy Bees. Lapsit is held in the Children's Program Room at the Main Library. Sessions last 20-30 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. Come as often as you can. May Storytime at the Carnation City Mall Branch
The Carnation Mall Branch of Rodman Public Library will host Storytime for 4-6 year olds in May. Patrons may attend Storytime on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:15 p.m. or Thursday mornings from 10:30 -11:15 a.m. Topics will include: Pets on Parade, Pack a Picnic Basket, Let's Go Camping, and It's a Colorful World. The goal of Storytime is to encourage life-long readers through stories, music, movement and activities. Pre-registration is not required. For more information, call the library at 330-821-1313.
