February Make and Take Card Class

Rodman Library will hold a card class in February using basic techniques for rubber stamping and scrapbooking. Projects will be demonstrated in this 'make-and-take' class using the 'pastel embossing' technique. The class will be open to adults and teens. It will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 1 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium. There will be a fee of $5 per person for material costs. Registration is required by Wednesday, February 10, and the fee must be paid at the time of registration. There is a limit of 12 people in the class. Pedaling Parson Visits

Local author Stan Purdum will visit Rodman Library on Monday, February 15, at 6:45 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium. Long an avid bicycle tourist, Purdum has ridden several long-distance bike trips, including a cross-nation ride recounted in his book Roll Around Heaven All Day, and a trek on the length of US Route 62, from Niagara Falls, New York, to El Paso, Texas, the subject of his book Playing in Traffic. His newest bicycle book is Pedaling to Lunch, a guide to 20 bicycle rides in Northeast Ohio. Tax Preparation Assistance

AARP Tax Assistance and Preparation program is geared to taxpayers with low-and middle-income, with special attention to those age 60+. Volunteers are trained to assist in filing tax forms and basic schedules, incl. the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ. Registration for 40 minute appointments is required and will be available on February 16, March 9, and April 6. Inquire at the Main Library's Circulation desk, or call 330-821-2665. Lapsit in February

The Children's Department at Rodman Public Library invites patrons ages 2 & 3 years old to Lapsit Monday evenings, February 1, 8, 15 & 22 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday mornings, February 3, 10, 17 & 24 at 10:30 a.m. Topics will include: an all music day, frogs and turtles, cats and kittens and dog dreams. Lapsit is held in the Children's Program Room. Sessions last 20-30 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. Come as often as you can.

Storytime at the Branch

The Carnation Mall Branch invites patrons ages 4-6 years old to Storytime on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:15 p.m. and Wednesday mornings 10:15-11 a.m. in January and February. Topics will include: January Days, Bedtime Stories, My Favorite Authors, Let's Eat, February Days, Valentine's Day, Rodman Olympics and Dog Gone Good. Children will learn through stories, finger plays, and games. Registration is not required. For more information call the Branch at 330-821-1313.

Young Explorers Program for Ages 7-9

Join the Children's Department at Rodman Library for the Young Explorer's Program. The program is for ages 7-9 and will include stories, crafts, games and other activities. Meetings will be held in the Children's Program Room on the third Wednesday of each month from 4:15-5:00 p.m., beginning October 21, 2009 and ending April 21, 2010. Registration is required and is limited to 15. Call the Children's Department at 330-821-2665 x224 for more information or to register.

Adopt-a-Magazine Drive a Success

During the months of September and October, residents of the Alliance community came forward to 'adopt' a magazine for the library collection at Rodman Public Library. The magazine budget was cut by twenty-five percent this year due to funding reductions. Forty six magazine sponsorships were requested so that the public would continue to have access to the material. The Library wishes to thank the public for generously purchasing thirty three magazines for a total value of $1,053.43. Thank you for stepping forward in this time of need.List of titles adopted...

Meet Dewey! Kids banner Rodman Library has created a web site just for children called "Rodman Kids". The site features games and kid-related book information for children in three different age categories: 0-5, 6-8, and 9-11. The brightly colored site includes a mascot based on Dewey the Goldfish who lived in a fishbowl in the Children’s Department at the Main Library. Dewey was brought to life by Kathy Gray Farthing, a local illustrator and graphic artist who owns Farthing Graphic Design. More...
